Las Vegas has primarily been known for gambling. There is a reason why it is called Sin City. People visit (or escape) to Las Vegas for gambling, drinking, nightlife entertainment, pool parties, even weddings. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Gambling is a fun way to put some extra money in your pocket, you can win some meaningful amounts of money, but you can also plummet your lifesavings or bankroll. Gambling was a big taboo for society in the past, but now it’s very well immersed in our environment. Gambling is more accessible than ever. You can wager on sports without even going to a casino, all you need is a mobile device. Since sports betting legalization, gambling industries have dominated the commercial space. Half the advertisements you see today are gambling, sportsbooks, and casinos content. Sportsbooks/Casinos has also partnered up with big companies and big broadcasting networks, such as PENN Entertainment with ESPN network, launching their ESPN Bet sportsbook platform. Although some states do not allow sports betting, there are ways you can still place a wager, even if you do not reside in a state that allows sports betting. One way you can bet is to travel to a state that allows sports betting and mobile casino gambling (as of May 6, 2024, only 6 states allow mobile casino gambling).
Though there are people who do make a living from gambling, including poker players, sport betting analysts, sports bettors, handicappers, touts, casino games players, esports players, but most people are not cut out for it, nevertheless the house always has the edge. The casinos and sportsbooks designed their system/model for you to lose your hard-earned money in the long run. They have statistical advantage and the more you play, the more you’ll lose. You are essentially betting your money on chance and sheer luck. I did a deep dive comparison between gambling and investing in the book. I do, however, argue (and many pro gamblers) that some forms of gambling do involve certain levels of skills. For sports betting, you can use analysis, data, statistics, and many other variables to place your wagers. As for poker, you can use your mathematical skills and read betting patterns, body language (in person), and strategize action. But casino’s games include table games and slot machines, is in the house favor.

Sports betting has been on a rise. Thanks to online sports gambling legalized in 2018.
Gambling should be heeded with caution because it can quickly escalate losing meaningful money. Gambling has a lot of drawbacks, and it can get perilous if you let your emotions get the best of you. Not to disrespect those who gamble for a living, gambling should be perceived as entertainment, not a way to make money. Again, so little have the discipline and the bankroll management. If you or you know someone that has a gambling problem, you can call National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) confidential hotline available 24 hours at 1-800-522-4700.
